Product description

Spotix burner kits provide the perfect centerpiece for your DIY gas fire pit. Featuring premium components and heavy-duty construction, these kits have been professionally assembled to ensure superior performance. Manufactured by experts at Hearth Products Controls, this burner features durable 304 stainless steel, and staggered burner ports for improved flame performance, and is machine welded for a seamless design.

This burner can be installed DIY or by a professional installer and can be used for either Natural Gas or Propane applications. For LP applications, a propane conversion kit--which includes an air mixer, coupler, and nipple--will also be necessary. The kit components include a stainless steel flex line, quarter-turn ball valve, decorative flange and key, and stainless steel fittings. The fully assembled kit will complete the burner assembly from the burner to the shut-off valve.

What to Consider When Building a Gas Fire Pit

Determine the proper gas supply for your fire pit.

  • For optimal performance, supply pressure should be 3.5 inches and 7 inches water column for natural gas and between 8 inches and 11 inches water column for propane.
  • A professional gas installer will use a tool called a manometer to measure gas pressure and may add a regulator if necessary.
  • Ensure a large enough gas supply is available in order to meet the BTU requirements of the burner.
  • A fire pit with an incorrect gas supply will have poor flame performance or a "whistling" noise during operation.
  • The BTU rating of a 20-pound propane tank limits your burner options to sizes rated for 125,000 BTU or less.

fire, pit, burner, star, sizes, options, collection

Select your fire pit burner size.

  • After determining the limits of your gas supply, a burner can be selected.
  • Choose a burner at least 6 inches smaller than the inside dimension of your enclosure.
  • This 6 inches of space provides the necessary 3 inches of clearance between the burner and enclosure on all sides.

fire, pit, pan, plate, holder, tray

Determine whether or not you need a fire pit burner pan.

  • Fire pit pans come in bowl flat pan and bowl pan varieties. Flat pans are a flat sheet of stainless steel, while bowl pans feature several inches of depth as well as a lip for mounting.
  • Pans should be mounted approximately 3 to 4 inches below the top surface of your enclosure.
  • We recommend burner pans in all fire pit installations to extend the life of your burner components. However, burner pans are required for propane applications for safety purposes.

fire, pit, kit, extension, flange, tube

Determine if a flange extension is necessary for your installation.

  • In most cases, the shut-off valve for your fire pit will be located inside your fire pit.
  • Spotix burner kits include a 3-inch key.
  • If your enclosure wall is thicker than 3 inches, you may need a flange extension and a longer key.

fire, pit, gas, air, exhaust, vent, enclosure, surround

Add adequate ventilation for the fire pit

  • Ventilation is required for all fire pits to ensure safe and optimal operation.
  • The recommended amount of ventilation for a gas fire pit is 36 square inches. This is typically accomplished through the use of two 18-square-inch vents on opposing sides of the fire pit.

installation, collar, angle, iron, lip, edge, gap, ledge

Add installation collars (if necessary)

  • Installation collars provide an optional way to install a fire pit pan within an enclosure.
  • These collars can be used on enclosures of all shapes and easily bend for use on circular enclosures.
  • Collars can be anchored to an enclosure through the use of concrete screws.
  • In lieu of collars, flat fire pit pans can be installed by leaving a lip around the interior of the enclosure during construction or by building up levels of fire bricks within the enclosure.
  • Bowl pans can be installed using the manufactured lip on the pan itself.

fire, glass, lava, rock, stone, gems, jewels, pieces

Add fire media to the fire pit

  • Fire media, typically fire glass or lava rock, is a necessary component of a gas fire pit.
  • Fire glass and lava rock serve to disperse gas to create a full flame appearance in a fire pit.
  • Both lava rock and fire glass can be used in the same way. The choice between the two is only aesthetic.

fire, pit, cover, weather, wind, rain, snow, protection

Consider using a fire pit cover

  • A cover is optional but can help extend the life of your fire pit.
  • Both hard metal covers and soft vinyl or cloth covers are available.
